The coil is a heat/cool air exchange unit. The air from within the building and/or the newly introduced air is heated or chilled as it passes through the fine fins, much like a car radiator.
As with the nature of air forced through what is essentially a metal matrix, there is entrapment of dust, particles, pollen insects and even dander. The coil as a result of heating or cooling also generates condensation. This all creates a perfect storm for biofilm, bacteria and matting. A clean coil is more efficient in transferring temperature and also in letting the air pass through. This means less operational costs and better efficiency. It also means a more healthy environment. Bacteria breed in the in biofilm and can be distributed throughout a workplace in minutes !!!
